Adaptive test of non-verbal reasoning

About thirty matrix problems. The test adapts to your answers — it picks the next item from what it has learned about you so far, and stops once the estimate is precise enough.

What this is

Free, no account, no sign-up. The methodology, the code and the item parameters are published. Items are generated from seeds, so they are practically inexhaustible — the bank currently holds 800 verified items, and a new batch is one command away.

What this is not

This is not an IQ test and it does not give an IQ score. An IQ scale requires norms from a stratified sample of several thousand people; that sample does not exist, and until it does, any number on that scale would be invented.

Item difficulty currently comes from an a priori model, not from measurements on people. The estimate you get is therefore not a measurement but an estimate under an assumption — and the result says so.

This is not a diagnostic instrument and says nothing about your health, your ability to work, or your worth.

Frequently asked questions

Is the test really free?

It is, in full. No account, no payment, no trial period. The result appears on screen as soon as the test ends and needs no e-mail address. An address is asked for only if you request the full report yourself, and it is used for nothing else.

Do I need to register or leave an e-mail?

No. The test runs without an account and without an e-mail. Nothing is unlocked by registering, because there is no registration.

Do I get an IQ number?

No, and that is deliberate. An IQ scale requires norms from a stratified sample of several thousand people. That sample does not exist yet, so any number on that scale would be invented. You get an ability estimate with a confidence interval and a sentence about what it is and is not.

How do I know the test measures anything?

The methodology, the code and the item parameters are published, along with a list of limitations. Item difficulty currently comes from an a priori model, not from measurements on people — and the result says so instead of pretending to be measured.

What is recorded about me?

Answers and time per item, without a name and without an account. That data exists so the items can be calibrated. An e-mail address is stored only if you enter it for the report, with explicit consent, and it is deleted on request.

How long does it take and how many items are there?

Between ten and thirty-five items, usually about ten minutes. The test is adaptive: it picks the next item from your answers so far and stops once the estimate is precise enough, so two people rarely get the same number of items.

What is recorded

Answers and time per item, without names and without accounts. That data exists so the items can be calibrated — the only route by which this test stops being an assumption.
